Opening Prayer

Aum
saha nau~ avatu
saha nau bʰunaktu
saha vīryam~ karavāvahai
tejasvi nau~ adʰītam astu
mā vi-dviṣāvahai
āūṃ śāntiḥ śāntiḥ
śāntiḥ

Oh Supreme Brahma
May Thou Protect us both, (teacher and taught).
May we both strive to absorb your grace.
May our combined energies be productive.
May our study bring us illumination.
May there be no discord among us.
OM! PEACE! PEACE! PEACE!

1) This is the opening invocation used by the teacher and the taught
before they approach the work.
